Driving license for 17-year-olds – Accompanied driving
Prerequisites
- Munich is your main residential address
- You must be at least 16 ½ years old
- You must name at least one accompanying person that fulfill the following requirements:
- At least 30 years old
- At least 5 consecutive years in possession of a Class B or 3 license
- A maximum of 3 points in the Central Road Traffic Register
Application:
You must first go to the Municipal Administration Authority (Kreisverwaltungsreferat), where your application will be printed.
You will need to present the following documents:
- Valid passport or identity card
- Eyesight test certificate
- Certificate of basic life-saving measures
- Confirmation from the driving school at which you are registered
- Accompanying person(s)
You must name at least one accompanying person (max. 8). The form must be printed out separately for each accompanying person. You can download the form at the following address on the internet:

Fees to be paid to the Driver Licensing Authority:
- Processing fee with trial period € 43.30
- Processing fee without trial period (given possession of Class A1 license) € 42.60
- In addition, for the verification of accompanying persons, € 11.00 per person
The processing fee includes the costs of a test certificate but not the costs of the application for and the issue of a driving license from the age of 18.
Issue of driving license
Approximately two weeks before you become 18 years of age, you must go personally to the Municipal Administration Authority (KVR) and apply for your driving license.
To make this application, you will need:
- Valid passport or identity card
- Test certificate
- 1 recent passport photo, 35×45 mm, without head cover
- Fee € 7.70
The driving license will be produced centrally by the Federal Printing Office in Berlin. It will be sent to you by post as soon as it is ready.
